From the Author
This 2001 edition is the fifth edition of a book that was first
published in 1978. The book, having sold over 250,000 copies, has
established itself as a blackjack classic.
About the Author
Jerry Patterson has a B.A. from Willamette University (1956) and an
MS from George Washington University (1968). Before becoming a
blackjack player, gambling author and instructor, he spent 25 years
in the computer systems and services field.
Jerry Patterson has been playing casino blackjack since 1956. He
entered the gaming field full time in 1978 when the Atlantic City
casinos opened. He played professional blackjack in the 1980s and
managed several blackjack teams during that period. He is the author
of five gambling books all published by The Berkley Publishing Group,
a division of Penguin Putnam Inc.
Founded in 1978, his gaming company, Jerry Patterson Enterprises,
Inc. (JPE) AKA Jerry Patterson's Blackjack Clinic, is the oldest and
most successful in the gambling instruction and services field.
Through this company and via his former syndicated casino gaming
column published in newspapers and magazines internationally,
Patterson has taught millions of gamblers the rudiments and the fine
points of how to win at blackjack, craps, and roulette.
Patterson has been involved in researching and developing winning
gambling systems since the early 1960s. An example of a notable
accomplishment in the blackjack arena is the first Shuffle-tracking
method published first in 1985 and then in the 1990s edition of this
book.
Patterson's research and development activities in casino
blackjack started in 1963 when he was working with two of the
developers of the original basic strategy -- Will Cantey and Herb
Maisel. With their help, he designed and implemented the first
blackjack computer simulation model.
His attention turned to casino roulette and then to casino craps
in the 1990s. Much of that work is documented in his book, Casino
Gambling, a best seller since publication in 2000.
Eric Nielsen is a successful advantage player who has been closely
associated with Jerry Patterson since 1990. He spends much of his
time researching casino games and developing creative advantage play
methodologies.
Eric lectures on casino gaming topics and has successfully led
professional Blackjack, Craps, Baccarat and Roulette teams in Las
Vegas and Atlantic City. He was the first to develop successful
methods to exploit the dealer signature phenomenon in casino
Roulette. Eric is also expert in the mental discipline aspects of
professional play.
Eric developed the Signature Series Roulette program for casino
Roulette and the Inner Track Guide to Winning mental readiness
program for professional players. He co-authored Casino Gambling with
Jerry Patterson, assisted in the development of the PARR program for
casino craps and has authored numerous articles on advantage play
topics.
Eric makes his home in south-central Connecticut and can be
spotted frequently playing at blackjack, craps and roulette tables in
Atlantic City, Las Vegas and, closer to his home, at the Foxwoods and
Mohegan Sun.
