This book is really different from most of the other offerings on the
market. It's aimed at the everyday blackjack player (not would-be
professionals, although they would benefit from it, too). Its card
strategy is an eye-opener: it reveals that some dealer up cards
traditionally thought favorable to the player are actually NOT, and that
some dealer up cards traditionally thought favorable to the dealer are
actually NOT. That changes things a lot, and allows the player to take
advantage of opportunities they probably don't realize they have. Really,
there is so much that is new and unique to this book that, hopefully, it
will achieve due recognition for the insights it adds to the pantheon of
great blackjack literature.

I wrote this book because of the urging of my friends, who had witnessed
my great success at the casino, and wanted to learn my secrets. The more
I wrote, the more I realized how much went into my success -- from my
technique of choosing a good table (which is apparently a skill few
realize they must have), to my method of deciding when to leave a table
or casino (which is one of the keys to winning), and, then, my many
innovations in card strategy, money management, card tracking and table
"monitoring" (keeping track of how favorable the action is over time). My
method for detecting casino countermeasures (while playing) and casino
dirty tricks (especially, before sitting down to play) has kept me away
from trouble, and contributed to my high win rate. The more I realized
how novel my system was, the more proud I became as I set it down in
writing. The illustrations also greatly add to this book -- helping to
explain concepts not found in any other book, in a simple fashion.

About the Author
Richard Harvey started his career as a freelance writer with the Boston
Globe, Boston Herald-American, Downbeat Magazine and other publications,
before going into broadcast journalism as a news anchor at the NBC Radio
Networks, and reporter/news writer with CBS Newsradio 88, among other New
York City outlets. He hosted a talk show on a major PBS TV station in New
York for 2 years. His focus on blackjack began when he was laid off along
with the rest of the staff of a major New York City radio station whose
format had changed from classical to heavy metal. He had been developing
his own card strategy and theories for a year, testing them out on an
excellent computer game simulation, when he decided to test his skills at
the casinos of Atlantic City. Immediately going on a tear, winning far
more than he lost, Richard Harvey realized then that blackjack was one of
his natural talents, and would become an important part of his life.
